Designing & Building a Professional FET Condenser Microphone (PCB Based)
DIY FET condenser mics! Based off of the ORS 87 circuit. With the amazing support of Jano Gracia, we were able to come up with a microphone PCB that had a simple circuit, good sound, low cost, and the right dimensions to fit into many imported microphone bodies / chassis. The whole idea behind this was to have the ability to make many condenser microphones as I need, since I usually need a lot of them. (I record large ensembles live)… So now with these PCBs, all I have to do is get a nice capsule, a donor body, and then I have a nice mic ready to go. *I also added the rustic look because I thought the raw metal looked kinda boring…

ABBA “Eagle” Metal Remix
Ever wondered what ABBA sounded like as metal? Well here it is. It just works so well! I kept the original drums and vocals, and I played the guitar, bass, and synths. #abba #remix #metal #guitar

Remixing “The Most Mysterious Song on the Internet” Using ONLY the Original Audio Recordings
I recently discovered all the drama and cult following that people have for discovering this unknown song from Europe in the 80s. All the recordings that we have of it are quite bad, having been processed through tape, vinyl, radio, cassette, digital, and digital again. They’re all mono and are very muddy. So I took up the challenge of remixing the song as best as I could. I had to artificially create the audio stems using various software and AI processes, and then further develop the audio tracks with Izotope RX audio restoration software. While it was very very difficult to get the parts individually separated, it worked ok and I now have a decent stereo mix. Hope you enjoy

Vintage Shure 55SW Mic Converted Into Modern 48V Condenser Microphone
1950s-60s Shure 55SW Microphone “the Elvis mic” I got this microphone a few months ago, in horrible condition. The original diaphragm was destroyed, and the transformer & other electronics were just rattling around inside the mic. Instead of making it a true restoration, I decided to replace everything with modern microphone electronics. The first donor microphone was a large diaphragm condenser mic that I got pretty cheap. I built an entire shock mount internally for the diaphragm, bolted everything up, only to find out that the PCB circuit stopped working… I genuinely don’t know why it didn’t work. A few months later, I got a brand new small diaphragm condenser mic for $30, so I decided to give it a go again. Finally, everything works, even though I literally trimmed the circuit board with scissors to make it fit into the Shure body… It sounds great now! Video demo soon I guess

JT Motenz “Sundown” - Live Recording Session
Tenor Sax - JT Martenz Tenor Sax - Brady Markin Flugelhorn - Braeden Dunham Piano - Jonas Kupchella Bass - Will Read Drums - Spencer Read Written by JT Martenz Mixing & Mastering by JT Martenz Assistant Recording Engineer - Paul Hanover This ballad will be released on my first jazz album in the future, but I decided to put the video up on YouTube. This is the result of my attempt at recreating the sound & production style of late-50s Blue Note records recorded by Rudy Van Gelder. Everything was recorded live at a local church, with no overdubs or edits. I used 8 tracks recorded digitally, and then sent the stems off to be recorded through the legendary Ampex MM-1000 16 Channel tape recorder. Getting those taped tracks back gave me the sound of 50s/60s tape recordings, with the convenience of mixing in the DAW. Overall, I’m really happy with the result, despite the imperfections that came with recording music live. My tuning was a little wacky, but who cares… I know better for next time. Thank you to Paul for giving me access to the church space & their equipment, Chris at The Lullaby Factory for running the Ampex machine, and all the musicians involved.

Audio From July 30th, 1948 (restored home-recorded vinyl disc)
This disk was recorded on July 30, 1948. The handwriting on the label names the people in the room talking, who seem to be talking to newborn “Janie”. Janie, the infant we hear crying is currently 75 years old. For a short period of time in the 40s and 50s, record player companies made machines that could receive radio signals, and cut them onto a blank vinyl disc using the lathe function. They never really caught on, with reel to reel tape recorders becoming readily available, doing the job in a much more consistent way. That’s how this was recorded.

1950s Home Recording of a Family Singing Christmas Carols at a Party
This is an original tape recording of a family from the Detroit, Michigan area singing & talking at a house party during new years. By the age of the tape, it is likely from the late 1950s I found the tape at an antique store, and I then digitized it by recording into Logic Pro X with a Akai X-200D tape recorder. I added some pitch correction, compression/ limiting, and EQ to make the voices as clear as possible. Enjoy!

1964 Silvertone 1420 - Two Minute Demo
This is a original 1964 Silvertone 1420 It was made in Chicago by Harmony Guitars, and then branded by Silvertone, sold in the Sears magazines in 60s. At the time, these guitars were the cheapest option, appealing to players that couldn’t afford a expensive Gibson or Fender. The pickups are practically just low wound single coils. These guitars are known for their clean, warm, and mellow tones, and you can buy one used today for around 500-800 dollars. This was my first YouTube guitar video, and I hope you enjoyed!
